Music Video Project: Evaluation Blog Post #9 - CCR #1

CCR #1:

How does your product use or challenge conventions, and how does it represent social groups or issues?

CCR #1: Hello, my name is Ryan Jurdi, and this is my answer to CCR #1 and to be creative with this CCR I will be acting like a newscaster. First, let's start off with how my project used conventions. One of the ways I used the conventions of the original song music video is through the setting of where the music video takes place. In that music video it took place in a bedroom and similarly my music video also had parts of it take place in my bedroom even though two scenes did take place in my living roomAnother convention I used was the sounds in my music video since it just contained the lyrics and the music’s beat which is what the original music video did too. Now, what conventions did I challenge? Well, some include the camera and the editing of my music video. First, the camera. In the original music video, the camera stayed in the same position the entire time. In my music video, the camera has a variety of shots like close-up shots and medium shots. It also has numerous camera angles like when I was sleeping on the couch the camera was at an eye-level camera angle or when I was on my bed it would usually be at a low-angle camera angel. Another convention that I challenged was editingIn the original music video, everything was shot in one take which meant there were no cuts between scenes. In my music video I have plenty of cuts between scenes, and I even included transitions where the screen would fade to black, so it would symbolize me falling asleep to wake up the next day. A third convention I challenged was the number of actors that appearIn the original music video, a total of 7 actors appear, one being Bruno Mars and the other 6 being other actors and background dancers. While in my music video, I am the only actor that is present in the video.

The way my music video represents social issues is by highlighting several ways our society is lazy. Throughout the video there are numerous actions that I do that show off laziness like when I ignored the phone in some of the scenes or how most of the video I was either napping or sleeping. I did these actions to hopefully reveal a big issue in our society since we all know that laziness is an up-and-coming issue with our society, especially after COVID-19.
